Modern humans belong to the species called Homosapiens. How many of you agree that we really deserve this name?
I will come back to this question once I finish my lamentation. I have categorized this as lamentation because this is a passionate expression of my grief.
During my last visit to my hometown Madurai, I went to my favorite hangout place - the rock-cut cave temple at Thirupparankundram. I worship nature since our life is intrinsically entwined with nature for all our fundamental needs.
The rock-cut cave temple is excavated on the southern side of the huge hill.
The place is covered by the canopies of banyan trees and anyone visiting will be overpowered by unsurpassable calmness, broken only by the screams of the peacock.
I laid down on my back on a stone bench, escaping the clutches of urbanization. Closed my eyes and enjoyed the melody of nature and I was spellbound. Felt like the mountain was singing a lullaby to make her son sleep in her laps.
In a short while, I woke up suddenly when a drop of water fell on my face. I saw water seeping from the top of the mountain and the way it branched into two looked like the mountain was crying and tears rolling down on her cheeks. I tried to trace the origin of tears looking at the top of the mountain. The sun rays emerging through a rock in the mountain top looked like the mountain spreading her hands calling me with tears. Immediately I started climbing the mountain to find out the reason for her tears.
At the foot of the hill, few tourists were urinating and defecating.
Is the mountain crying over this?
While climbing further, I saw anti-social activities like prostitution, drug abuse.
Is the mountain crying over this?
A few were cutting trees for firewood.
Is the mountain crying over this?
From the mountain, I saw a bomb explosion in a quarry owned by a politician and illegal sand mining. Is the mountain crying over this?
I reached the top and saw Hindu & Muslim fighting for their rights in the mountain since both Kasivishwanathar temple and Sikkandhar dargah was there at the top.
Is the mountain crying over this?
From the top, I was able to see the entire city. The visual I saw from the top gave me the clue why the mountain made me climb the top. Next to the temple, I saw a hospital, school, college, factory & IT companies and a graveyard in the boundary of the city. Now I understood that the Nature God was worrying about the lifestyle of the humans, the so called homosapiens. A human's short life cycle starts from a hospital as a newborn baby, studies in school, then college, working to earn money and finally goes to the graveyard. Without enjoying the beauty of nature, people are currently running to make money neglecting nature's law. You can take care of something only if you love it.
Nature always wears the colors of the spirit - as told by Ralph Waldo Emerson. So if you admire nature, it will reflect your emotions and if you neglect it, it will neglect you and we have to suffer the consequences.
And a saddening fact is :
Bob Dylan has rightly told in one of his songs -
"I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul"
Homosapiens in Latin means "Wise Man". Now you tell me - Are we really wise?

∴ Nature always wears the colors of the spirit. –Ralph Waldo Emerson
∴ Nature speaks to us through different images, landscapes, colors, patterns, and forms of exquisite beauty. As we admire nature’s extravagance, our emotions and feelings become part of it. This harmonious balance makes our souls happy.

∴ In nature there are neither rewards or punishments – there are consequences. – Robert Green Ingersoll
∴ Anything that does not respect nature’s laws or which does not follow its flow suffers consequences. Nature does not know good or evil, yet its first law is causality. For every action, there is a natural effect that follows. Understanding this law makes us more powerful.

The hill in Thirupparankundram has two rock-cut caves one in the northern side which has the main shrine of Lord Muruga and another one on the southern side. The rock-cut cave temple on the southern side is maintained by ASI.
The temple contains several bas reliefs & Tamil Brahmi inscriptions. It was originally a Jain temple but later converted to the Hindu Shaivite temple. The chopped out bas reliefs depict the conflict between two religions.
